Silver-Tree

¬I’d made this picture of a woman holding a heart. It didn’t really have a concept as I was making it. It sort of took a life of its own … my pictures being possessed and all.

Anyway, I was thinking: “Crap! What the hell is this piece gonna be about?” Ok, I know you’re supposed to think of what the hell a piece is gonna be about before you actually start making it, but I’m a backward kinda guy (you’d know if you had the monstrously unfortunate privilege of being an acquaintance of mine).

So, I was filtering through all the useless facts and trivia that are stored in my mind and stumbled upon the Brothers Grimm (gotta love ‘em). In the Disney version or Snow White, I remembered that the evil queen-witch wanted the hunter to give her the heart of Snow White in a box. So, I was thinking: “Hey, a concept!” Being such a purist, I had to find out if it was so written in the original, and it isn’t. The original queen-witch actually wanted Snow Whites lungs and liver to eat (which is far better than a tough heart can offer. The evil queen-witch sure knew her best cuts). So, I couldn’t use it as a concept for my work.

But, I found another story, akin to Snow White. It was about a queen asking some trout (like he’d know) in a well about whether or not she was a babe and the trout said something like: “Yeah, you’re pretty hot. But your daughter’s babe-a-lusciously SEXY!” This pissed off the vain bitch to the max. So, she’s pretending to be sick in bed and hubby comes along and says: “Babe, what’s wrong?” and the queen goes: “I’m sick and I need to eat my daughter’s heart. Could fetch it for me?” ... I don’t know why hubby didn’t just drown the slut there, but, hey, it’s an alcohol induced tale. I won’t keep going, this artists description is turning novella … again. Ok, so, the queen didn’t actually get her daughters heart, but, hey, close enough … and that’s the story of the title … it’s of Queen Sliver-Tree holding Princess Gold-Tree’s heart … yes, those are their names … I told you, alcohol induced.

On my previous work, I said that I’d make my next work in vector … and I kept my promise … sorta. I mean, the subject, Queen Silver-Tree, is vector. But as far as the rest of it goes? No, it done in either Painter IX or Photoshop CS2 … so, yeah … that’s why its under “Miscellaneous,” coz its not really one program …
